Users and Passwords

Connecting to an nXPico family board with CODESYS requires a user name and password, as on any CODESYS PLC. This applies to every board: nXPico, nXPico W, nXPico M and nXPlc.

Boards leave the factory with no users and no default passwords: on the first download you will be asked to set a user name and a password.

First connection: create the administrator

Section titled “First connection: create the administrator”
  1. Connect the board and select it in the Communication Settings, as described in Getting Started.
  2. Click Login. CODESYS reports that user management has to be activated on the device and asks you to add a user.
  3. Choose a user name and password and confirm.

This user belongs to the Administrator group: it can do everything, including creating other users. From now on every login asks for a user name and password.

At login CODESYS asks for the user name and password. It remembers them for the rest of the IDE session: if the board restarts, CODESYS reconnects without asking again. After closing and reopening CODESYS they are asked for again.

A wrong password is rejected with Invalid user authentication on the target.

The board does not store the password, only a fingerprint of it (a salted scrypt hash), so it cannot be read or reset from outside. The only way out is to erase the flash and reinstall the firmware: this removes the users and the boot application as well. Then create the administrator again at the first login and download the application again.
